Porcelain veneers in Tyler
Your guide through the process
The appearance of your smile impacts the way you feel about yourself. Cosmetic dentists operate with a passion for restoring patients’ confidence through procedures which improve the smile. Over the years, there have been several advances in cosmetic dentistry; one such innovation being porcelain veneers. A veneer is a thin protective covering crafted from porcelain that can cover chipped, misaligned or discolored teeth for a whole new smile.
Improving your smile with porcelain veneers begins with a consultation with one of the dentists at Smith Dental Care. In any cosmetic procedure, the patient is fully involved in order to facilitate the completion of his or her ideal appearance. X-rays will be taken and an assessment performed to make sure veneers would be the best options for you.
The next visit at Smith Dental Care will be to prepare your tooth or teeth for your new porcelain veneers. Preparation involves gently buffing teeth in order to make room for the thickness of the veneer. Typically, about ½ millimeter of enamel is removed. After enamel has been removed, an impression will be taken and sent to the lab where permanent veneers will be fabricated. This process takes about four weeks to complete. During this time, you will be fitted with temporary veneers that you will wear during these four weeks.
The final visit in the veneer process is where you receive your new and improved smile. During this visit, our dentists will assess the fit and color of your custom veneers by placing them over the tooth or teeth to be treated. Each veneer may be trimmed, shaped and reassessed as needed to obtain the perfect fit. Once fit has been perfected, the tooth or teeth will be polished and etched. This facilitates a stronger bonding process, which will result in a longer lasting veneer. Dental cement is applied to the veneer and the veneer is then positioned onto the tooth. To set the veneer, a specialized light beam is used. This light activates chemicals in the cement which cause hardening. After the placement of all veneers, any excess cement is removed and your dentist will evaluate the way your teeth fit together.
